We've all heard that beauty comes at a price, but how high is too high? Eye specialists are warning against the latest trend to hit the United States-circle contact lenses.
In her "Bad Romance" video, shock queen Lady Gaga is seen sporting a large, doe-eyed look that's reminiscent of a Japanese anime character. Although media reports differ on whether Gaga was actually wearing circle contacts, or whether the effect was digitally created, the fact remains that the look is being copied and could be dangerous.
The effect is created by wearing lenses that extend beyond the iris, or colored part of the eye. Most of the contacts are created in Asia where they don't face Federal Drug Administration regulations. The increased interest in the lenses has prompted the American Optometric Association to issue a statement regarding them. The statement says the AOA is working to inform consumers about the risk of the illegal lenses.
"We found that FDA officials were shocked, as well as dismayed, by how easy these lenses can be obtained and how aggressively adolescents and young adults are targeted," president of the AOA and doctor of optometry Joe Ellis said in the statement.
Complete Eyecare Associates contact lens technician Kelly Travis says the cosmetic contacts are easily accessible on the Internet.

Lindsay Lohan has been sentenced to 90 days in jail: 30 days in jail for her first DUI arrest, 30 days for her second arrest and 30 days for reckless driving. After she is released, she will enter a 90-day inpatient rehab program, a judge ruled Tuesday.
Lohan will surrender to authorities on July 20 and report to the Century Regional Detention Facility in Lynnwood, Calif. (where she spent 84 minutes in 2007). Los Angeles Sheriff's Department spokesman Steve Whitmore says Lohan will be "kept away from the general jail population for the safety of everyone involved."
How much time could she actually serve? Whitmore admitted it may be as little as 25 percent, or about 22 days (or even less), because of overcrowding and the fact that she did not commit a violent crime.
The actress, 24, sobbed as the judge announced she was in violation of her probation and read the verdict. "Are you serious?" she asked her lawyer, Shawn Chapman Holley. When judge Marsha Revel asked how long she'd spent in prison in 2007, Holley said she wasn't sure, and Lohan was heard saying, "A lot!" Lohan will receive credit for her time behind bars.
Before the judge read the sentence, a teary Lindsay gave a statement to the court and claimed she "did the best I could. It has been a long haul, and I don't want you to think I don't respect you. I was doing everything I was supposed to do with all my heart... I am not taking this as a joke -- it is my life."

Sunglasses are more than just a fashion statement they also help to protect your eyes from harmful UV rays that have been known to cause several serious eye problems. Healthcare professionals have recommended that you should wear a good pair of sunglasses that are able to block up to 100% of harmful UV rays whenever outdoors and a good pair of sunglasses does not always mean an expensive pair of designer glasses.
Although fashion usually dictates what different types of sunglasses are trendy, there are always other options to purchase affordable sunglasses that are similar in style but for a fraction of the cost. There have been many styles that have gone in and out of fashion over the last few decades. The following 5 models of sunglasses have been fashionable at multiple times throughout our modern history.
1-Teashades Teashades, also known as John Lennon glasses, were very popular in the 1960's, but have largely fallen out of fashion since then. It is rumoured that they are making a comeback with recent paparazzi photos of famous actresses and musicians sporting the teashade frames.
2-Aviators The Aviator design was introduced in 1936 specifically for U.S. military pilots and was not made available to the public until a few years later. In 1986 Tom Cruise popularized Aviators as ace pilot Maverick in the movie Top Gun.
3-Oversized Sunglasses Oversized sunglasses first became popular in the 1960's when women purchased them to mimic the ones famously worn by Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis. They have recently made a comeback once again in the 21st century and their popularity is largely due to fashionistas like Paris Hilton.
4-Wraparounds Largely first made popular in the early 1990s wraparound sunglasses are the number one choice for athletes, from regular teams sports to extreme sports.
5-Ray-Ban Wayfarer Created in 1952 Ray-Ban's Wayfarer sunglasses opted for plastic frames rather than the tradition metal ones. Originally developed for pilots, Wayfarers quickly became popular amongst Hollywood stars like Marilyn Monroe and James Dean. In 1961 Audrey Hepburn wore them in the film Breakfast at Tiffany's and Tom Cruise sported them in the 1983 film Risky Business. Even today the Wayfarer is still a popular model of sunglasses.
