The April showers have brought the May flowers...but what if you're already so bored by them that you wish it was fall already? Add some spice to the florals in your wardrobe this spring with three easy styling tricks, after the jump.
#1: Pair your florals with...other florals. A hothouse floral print skirt may look pretty but predictable for a weekend afternoon, but add a rosebud-bedecked blouse on top, and suddenly things are in full bloom. The key to avoid looking like a clown? Choose one color that appears in both prints (or at least a similar color family, like two blues), and opt for prints with different sized florals so they don't compete.
#2: Or toss in a few stripes. We don't need to tell you dolls twice--nautical stripes are a huge trend this spring. But if you want to up the feminine factor, wear 'em with something unexpected, like a sweet floral skirt. Accessorize with a pair of neutral wedges (cork or raffia both look super-springy) and wooden or leather jewelry to help bring the whole look together.
#3: Toughen up with military-inspired accent pieces. The biggest news on the runways this spring (and continuing into fall) is the military trend. Nothing takes the saccharine factor out of a frilly dress quite like combat boots and a cargo jacket!

I had yet another busy fashion week day! I started off at the Max Azria show, and it did not disappoint! There were a few amazing looks that caught my eye.
Geometrically cut silhouettes. At the Max Azria show, models towered above the audience with their sky-high wedge boots and sleek, modern architectural-looking garments. Geometry is definitely in this season.
New neutrals. At the Azria show and over the past few days, I have definitely seen a trend towards neutral colors—gray, ivory and taupe—and playing around with different contours and fabrics. There have also been a lot of garments with sheer cut-outs—it shows skin and adds just the right amount of sexiness without being overt.
Cozy winter accessories. The TSE presentation I went to yesterday afternoon had a very similar aesthetic to the Azria show. There was lots of mixing of structured jackets with flowy dresses. Cozy beanie hats with fur pom-poms caught my eye and added punch to already perfectly styled outfits.
Lots of lines. Later on, the Glamour team and I hit up Marc by Marc Jacobs, which was such an upbeat show. I found myself moving along to the music and had to stop myself because I remembered I was in public. I clearly enjoyed myself! The clothes were young and fresh and a change from the previous shows I had seen. The shape obsession was still there, but interesting patterns and the use of color was used more liberally in this collection. I am going to be the first one in line to buy the long sleeved jump suit with the horizontal lines, which was my favorite piece in the whole show!
