There are few things in this world more glamorous, sophisticated or elegant than the haute couture shows in Paris.
But glamour, sophistication and elegance don't come naturally to the 20-something year old New Zealand man. Disorganisation, tardiness and that classic "she'll be 'right attitude," however, come in truckloads.
I left the house late this morning for my first show of the week, Christophe Josse. Really late. At the same time that the show was supposed to begin late. I missed my first train. The next one didn't arrive for four minutes. That might not sound like a long time, but when you're already 15 minutes late and you're a good 25 minutes away from your destination, every second counts.
The moment I arrived at my stop, I ran. Off the train, up the escalator, around the corner, up two flights of stairs and onto Avenue du President Wilson.
Arriving at Palais de Tokyo (the show venue), I burst through the door and up the stairs, round the corner, up another two flights of stairs, and froze.
On the landing a few steps above me, a model was gliding along in an all-black satin dress with a sheer front panel on the left hand side. I sat there puffing and sweating in a most unrefined manner as a flock of poised girls walked past in classic black gowns.
Floor length floating silk with exaggerated puff sleeves; sheer, feathered, shoulderless and barely skimming the thighs; velvet top, silk skirt, folded and hung like huge black flowers.

If the thought of shopping, wrapping, cooking and looking fabulous at parties makes you cringe, you may need help getting through the holidays in style. 1. Don’t Make it a DIY Holiday You can’t possibly do it all yourself, so get help any way you can. Don’t try to make homemade cards, cook lavish meals from scratch and clean the house to perfection. Any part of this that you can hire someone for or delegate to a family member or friend will make the holidays brighter. One exception to this rule: with all the time you save buying prepared holiday meals or store-bought cards, you could give yourself a DIY makeover just in time for the holidays. 2. Keep Shopping Fun Meet a friend for lunch or break shopping trips it into small, manageable chunks of time to keep it from being a chore. If holiday shopping is one of the few times during the year that you can dedicate to looking for clothes for yourself, don’t feel guilty about gifting yourself with a few outfits. Even if you're short on time, there are still strategies to shop in a hurry. 3. Plan Ahead Schedule your beauty maintenance well in advance of the holidays. Hair color and cut, manicure and pedicures, even getting your outfits cleaned or tailored needs to go in your appointment book ahead of time. Start early and you can get party perfect in 5 days. 4. Buy a Few Multi-Purpose Fashion Pieces

The late top fashion designer Alexander McQueen had a gift for bringing out some of the best ladies fashion ideas from that prolonged style extravaganza known as the 80s. In recent celeb news, both Vanessa Williams and Jennifer Hudson rocked an electric blue Alexander McQueen dress. With a plunging neckline, fitted waist, and artful draping around the sleeves and hips, this look made us forget all about those gigantic shouldered power suits that traumatized us every time we turned on Dynasty.
Williams wore the hot number to a Broadway opening in NYC, adding another staple of the early to mid-80s: a skinny belt, the better to accent her waist. She kept her fashion accessories simple, with black peep-toed pumps, a black clutch, and simple silver earrings.
In May, Jennifer Hudson rocked the same dress at the Cannes Film Festival, but went for a bolder look. With some awesome black ankle-strap platform shoes and a bold cuff bracelet, she kept the number of accessories low, but chose ones that packed a punch.
Right, so which fashion star do you think wore this celebrity fashion style better? Vanessa Williams with her sweet and simple approach, or Jennifer Hudson, who chose accessories with plenty of “pow”?
Well, if you ask me, I’d be happy to look as hot as either of these ladies any day of the week, but in this case, I’d give the edge to Ms. Hudson. I won’t lie, it’s the shoes. If I had legs like that, I’d buy a pair and wear them with everything for the next 10 years. What about you?
